I believe that each of us was put on this earth to be in “communion” with others … to be in meaningful, healthy relationships. Unfortunately, no one really teaches us how to be part of a successful relationship.
As we grow up, we soak up whatever we see happening in our family of origin, and perhaps assume that is how all relationships, marriages, and families are supposed to work. Therefore, I believe that crisis in a relationship can be a “blessing,” as it is an opportunity for you to slow down, and to examine your expectations for your relationship. But most importantly, it is an opportunity to let go of those “pre-programmed” notions that haven’t been working, and create a relationship that works for each of you. Humor is nearly always a part of the “therapy journey” with me!
